WOOTWOOTWOOT! finally got my electric guitar! didn't buy the SA120 as planned, but i got something better. Ibanez SA260FM. Flame maple top! looks great. sounds great too with HSS pickup config and a tremolo bridge. there is a tapcoil too! can't wait to jam with it!

hurrr i know i haven't blogged for very long... so here i am now.

today i went on another guitar trying spree around the city ahll area. i.e. bras besah, peninsular area. lol tried an SA160 at sweelee, but it sucked real bad. then tried some other ibanez at guitar connection, but it was too ex and didn't have trem. but i found one at music theme, almost perfect: HH, good brand (LTD), fixed fender-style trem, VERY good sound, alder body... almost would have bought it. only problem was it was too cheap to be true, or at least last for a decent amount of time, and the finish sucked, was like this matt black. ergh. then another thing was that the headstock was INVERTED. yuck. so unbalanced. but heck i'll find my guitar at my own time aye, don't wanna buy the wrong guitar. It's like marrying the wrong person.

ooh went to sims drive sweelee today. to try some guitars i'm eyeing. actually i was (and am) eyeing one only... the ibanez SA120. well it had awesome sound... if it weren't for the floating bridge which kept going out of tune. so irritating. but heck that can be fixed. I also tried one SZ something... that one was more ex but had lots of problems. knobs were too tight, switch was rusty, action too low... terrible QC. really really liked the SA. will get it during june hols i guess. oh yar. colour was terrible though, but got other colours. it was a grainy silver colour... yuck

dang... went to take a passport-sized photo for school today at some random neighbourhood photoshop. stupid thing was, it took 4 takes before i could get a decent shot. either my mouth looked super sad or fakely smiling... only after adjusting in the mirror then freezing my face did I get something which looked like a semi-smile - not good. at least the lady was nice enough to give me 5 tries...

THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY! gosh i've had such a tiring and stressful week. with all these activities and waking up early and lectures about how hard it is to score for IB and this and that and what not... finally get a BREAK.

Gosh i gotta be very honest... since these lectures on IB subjects and EE and ToK and CAS and everything started, i've had this nagging feeling of regret at the back of my head. IB requires constant and consistent scoring... and i'm not a consistent scorer. I'm more of the end product kinda guy, so i've been doubting in the back of my mind that i'm actually cut out for IB.

But i've realised that it's all about knowing how to play the game. i should stop thinking about why i'm NOT cut out for IB. what i need to do is think about HOW to make myself adapt to IB. Forget what i'm not. Think about what I can be. And, step by step with God I will get that diploma at the end.

hmph the IB programme seems so friggin scary. Today they talked about all the criterion and this and that and CAS hours and that again. Sounds so demanding. Sounds impossible.

Hmm went for my first day at ACS (Indep) today. They (Dr Ong) told us not to call it ACS (I). apparently there's ACS international also.

The campus is FRIGGIN HUGE. and they give strange names. The canteen's called an SAC or student activity centre. The food's not that bad. Didn't enjoy it too much though. Not used to it I guess.

And there are LIFTS IN THE CAMPUS

I felt really wierd today. Cuz I was in cat high uniform, which means GREEN SHORTS, among all the other pre-u students in long pants. So wierd. I felt so young.

But the people were very nice though. Most quite friendly and outgoing. Very cool.

haha haven't posted for very long...

on friday, I went jamming with Bryan and Victor. So awesome. haha we actually played complete songs! I'm so happy! haha we even played one song Victor didn't practice. He picked up very fast the bass riff... awesome. Haha you guys rock!

Then just yesterday i went jamming with redcon (my band). awesome also. I think we produced some really good sound. I just want to continue building chemistry between us. Great =)

woot went to watch red cliff (赤壁)2 on sunday night. such an awesome movie. even though i'm not quite a 'chinese' person i REALLY love the movie. it's so artistic. the music was SUPER COOL. it's like not in normal scale it's in some kind on mode. with flat VI and flat VII. sounds so cool.

anyway i got results yesterday. and i got 6 points! raw score! and minus 2 becomes 4. awesome. on target. and i can say safely that God was in charge here during my whole O level journey. here's proof: history and SS was my strong subject. usually got A1, but got B3 instead. Geog was my weak subject, usually got B3. got A1. how could I have pulled that off? it's God's hand working thru the whole thing. Cool...!

haiz came back from taiwan and remembered that com is spoiled. so it was fixed not long ago so i'll blog about my taiwan trip now.

one good thing was the weather. nice and cool, like 18ish. really good for walking long distances.

however, the food there was, in short, DISAPPOINTING. either we didn't go the right place or the food is downright bad. the oh lua was like friggin clean and like an omelete rather than some delicious egg and oyster that had been thrown on the floor. haiz. only nice thing was the XXL chicken. that was awesome. the rest was like... O_o. cuz we had high hopes after eating from the shihlin street snacks stall in singapore. ends up shihlin was quite a flop. except for the chicken lar.

the bubble tea there was AWESOME. the pearls were so Q. that's what they say in taiwan to mean chewy. very Q. very funny too. calling sth Q is like saying that i'm very A or that car very B. haha

anyway today i went to watch bedtime story with a bunch of friends. my verdict? don' waste your time. not even on the DVD. it's so predictable, so rushed, bleuh useless movie.

i also got some tips from nigel about working out at the gym. tried it out, hope it works. can't feel the ache now but hopefully tmr. that would mean muscles growing.

hmm i went to watch "bolt" with my friends yesterday... it was an okay movie... fairly predictable, just like the show they were making in the movie. the only thing worth watching was the dog bolt. so cute! dang cute fuzzy white dog. now i want to cute fuzzy white superdog. not the hot dog but a real dog. =)

i went for an allergy test just now at TTSH. the most itchy thing i've done. it's called a prick test. they drop the testing substances on the skin then give it a very slight and painless prick. then they see how it reacts. they also put pure histamine... crazy it's the stuff that gives you itch in the first place. so of course got reaction or sth wrong. turns out i'm allergic to lots of things... bermuda grass, oil palm, dust mites, roaches, some kinds of pollen, crabs, and even dogs =( i love dogs. thankfully i'm not allergic to cats =) i love cats more than dogs so it's great. but worst was dustmite and crab. those gave the worst reaction. but heck i love eating crab and i'll do it again. won't die one.

WOOT! finally went jamming with my band redcon after A WHOLE YEAR. it was fun. we actually played full songs!!!!!! somehow this is the only band i've ever jammed with (other than the church band) that has every complete full songs nicely. haha not to say that the others that didn't suck... it's just the practise factor. cuz we're all church musicians so we've played these songs and impromptu very often so yeah it was great. look forward to future sessions again, with even heavy music and tight instrumentation. ROCK ON REDCON!

woo class chalet was a shit load of fun. just food, cards, guitar hero and resident evil. and a cat too. there was this dang cute cat that kept finding its way into the chalet area. i had to carry it out by the scruff three times. it was so cute.

but i had to spend alot of money. damn ex the whole thing. now got drama chalet and must spend even more money shit i'm gonna go broke lor. then during holiday i'm not gonna be able to earn that much money anymore... shit shit this sucks.

gosh... i watched high school musical 3 yesterday night with a few church friends. it was probably the most corny and cheesy movie i've seen before. if it's mou lei tau i can enjoy... but that, no way. it's like every other second troy and gabriella will turn to each other and look each other in the eye and shit. what the heck.

anyway i went for haircut today... i finally can do layered on the back, but i forgot to tell the guy to leave a tail. shit. now it's just another normal hairstyle. well it's okay, it looks good. so heck i like it. =)

wah... yesterday's physics was quite challenging... they asked some question that NO ONE expected. i don't think even the teachers expected them cuz they had never emphasised on that part... the question was about x-ray then they ask about the wavelength and the effects and stuff... then i double error some more... i think lost 5 marks already... but it's okay. still can get A1.

as for emaths today, piece of cake haha. well come on, it's emaths. it's supposed to be easy. i almost couldn't prove one question but i discovered my error and corrected... then can prove. emaths today was great. it was like so easy... which is quite expected of emaths. i think i can do well with this one.

but all the happiness of emaths faded away when i sat for amath paper 2 in the afternoon. gosh i was so tired already... then the paper was quite difficult. you could say it gave me a "run for my money"... but i got "my money" in the end i finished the paper... althought i left out one question... took too long. but it's okay i think i can do well for this one too. great :)

hermm.... i went jamming today, and frankly, i'm quite dissatisfied to say the least. of all the songs my jamming buddies outrightly said they could play, at least half if not all they ended up not being able to play properly. sometimes one forgot a chord, the other times they went out of beat... now i wasted $10 on a substandard jamming session... haiz.
i'm not trying to say that my jamming buddies suck... in fact i think they are quite okay, lest i wouldn't have asked them to jam. it's just that, i feel that the distinction between "can play" and "cannot play" is has to be drawn more clearly. as a musician, i believe it has to be VERY clear cut, so as to prevent such wasted jamming sessions or maybe even gigs in future, where not even one song is completed.

So, here are a few criteria to define can or cannot play, which i abide closely by:
-if you haven't heard the song before, you cannot play it
-if you have heard the song before, but haven't played it on the instrument before, you cannot play it
-if you know the tabs to the song, but haven't practised it, you cannot play it
-if you know the tabs to the song, but cannot play it once through without missing a crucial riff, you cannot play it.
-if you cannot keep in beat and maintain tempo for the whole song, you cannot play it.
-if you cannot play a riff in the song, you cannot play it
-if you think you play it but don't know that you can, you can't play it.
-if you've played it a long time ago, but haven't practised that song since, you cannot play it
-if you've never touched the instrument you are gonna play for that song, you cannot play it (unless it's between acoustic and electric guitar or imaginery drums and real drums. finding practise for drums can be difficult)
-if you don't know when to come in during the song, you cannot play it.
-if you don't know how long a riff is, you can't play it.
-if you can't sing it, you CAN play it. the music is more important. (provided all other criteria are fulfilled)
-if you hate the song, you cannot play it.

so the next time anyone wants to jam with me, please follow these guidelines. i dun want a situation where we can't play any songs, i'm not happy, we're not happy and we waste money.

for the guys who jammed with me today and are reading this, i'm sorry for having to say this now, but i just want to make sure that future jamming sessions are good ones. no offence intended... just to qualify i'm not saying yall suck, but yeah you get the point. still friends yar

ARHG!!!!! and so cheap some more. i'm so happy hope they start selling SA120 soon. just now only got some RGs and an SA160. that was like the second best guitars in yamaha in HISTORY, second to the ibanez RGs. for once they sell electric guitars of substantial standard.

then there were english oral. so strange. reading went of perfectly, as well as the picture discussion. after the picture discussion the guy said "very good" very softly so yeah GOOD haha. the conversation was strange. he asked me some question about an elderly relative. then i answered. after the third sub question, the lady examiner suddenly said "ok we're done you can go". like WTF? i thought there is a second question? my friends all got it. but i didn't get second question? i also didn't answer the first question with a very general view... so wierd. dwin thinks i get full marks for conversation. like real lar... but if really then good haha.

hmm... today's NDP was quite a flop. firstly, it was like so short. secondly, it friggin rained. that shows that the mandatory weather manipulation committee has failed. thirdly, the performances were like so boring and predictable. when can they come up with something new?
fourth, the song sucked. that "shine for singapore" just isn't a shining example of a good song for singapore aye.

My chinese is good. oh yes it is. after watching this show, my chinese is like WHOA compared to most of the main actors in this show. Jet Li's chinese of course very tzai lar. but michelle yeo's chinese and that ang moh's chinese was like shit. even the calefare spoke better chinese. WTF man haha was so funny laughing at their chinese. however, the storyline was not bad. quite creative fictional connection to the teracota warriors and a cursed emperor whose name was never mentioned... but the protrayal of some chinese ppl was bad. friggin general looked like ang moh too. this show was obviously not intended for bilingual audiences cuz at the end the chinese characters suddenly spoke in english. ancient sanscrit text also suddenly read in english. piece o' shit

WOOT! ibanez ATK305. haha after about 3 hrs of testing this and other basses i finally came to a conclusion that it is the best for me. haha unfortunately it was not bought solely with my money, but with some help. haha talk to me in person to find out more. pics are below. i also got to try out a TUBE AMP!!!!!!!! it's SOOOOOOOOOOOO cool. like there are so many leds, then when you turn on the amp itself the whole word "ibanez" lights up orange!!! it's the friggin coolest amp i've seen in my life. looking forward to see a mesa boogie one day. haha the distortion tone was SUPERB!!!!! SO RICH SOUND!!!! haha but YOU'd have to be rich to buy it. hahas

i went to sweelee and davis yesterday (i was very free) to see basses. haha once again i didn't find what i wanted at sweelee... but at davis i tried our the OLP MM32. this one had two pickups, unlike the mm3. whoa world of difference. i really really like this one! very nice! LTD still owns. haha after trying the bass and walking around and causing more inconvenience to the staff, in the end, i rewarded them by buying: a pick. haha a nice planet waves hard pick. that's all. haha. the cashier was also very funny. after going through all the keyboard typing and stuff just to check out a 50cent pick, she asked if i needed a carrier for my new little pick. haha we all had a good laugh.

WOOT! i went to Davis today. that's a guitar shop in peninsular shopping center for those non-guitar ppl. i got to see the OLP mm3 bass. it is sort of a budget musicman stingray 5. that's a bass guitar for those non-guitar ppl. for those non-music ppl, a bass guitar is a big piece of wood with strings on it. frankly, not too impressive... but when i came to the LTD B-105, wow! only $495 and so good quality!!!!!!!! I WANT!!!!

i went sweelee with a friend juz now to try out stuff.... finally got my hands on that awesome bass. great sound, very playable, and VERY BRIGHTTTTTT!!!! i'm like so happy now.

alrite. when i start working i'll aim to get this bass. just plain awesome. so versatile also!!!!!

i also got to try out a twelve string in another shop. rather interesting instrument. the sound is so full and nice... but it's not easy to play. can also see that it is a nightmare to tune... 12 tuners eek.

okay... maybe i don't hate humbuckers. i juz found out yesterday that humbuckers and bartolinis are completely different. the pickups on the Cort A5 that the church has are bartolinis. i hated their sound. but yesterday at the thomson plaza yamaha i tried their 5 string RBX bass... which had humbuckers. i was thoroughly impressed by it actually. it gave me really good solid sound with nice clear picking sound. slapping didn't sound all that good, but it was better than the A5. i wouldn't mind buying it if it weren't for its awful shape. i hate that hiker's thumb thingy. go see for urself what i mean. in my opinion, electric guitars should NEVER have horns that curve outwards.

Yes! Just bought my gator case for my bass. 1cm of protection. not nearly the best but good enough for me. at least it is what i am willing to afford... anyway it has a skull design on the front. it doesn't look demonic or anything... but my dad freaked out when he saw it... now he wants me to scrape it off or spray over or sth. i told him to get me a new bag if he wasn't happy.

anyway today was raining so friggin heavy. the worst part was that i was in it with my bass and a puny umbrella... good thing i got wet, not my bass. anyway i went jamming today, and got to try out my BOD-1 with a proper bass amp. woot! i just bought a bass overdrive pedal. it's by beta alvin. most of all would probably never have heard of it... it's sort of an immitation of boss. it looks, works and sounds just like the boss bass overdrive. i went sweelee yesterday to look for bass overdrive. the boss one is about $198. this one sounds exactly the same and is only $69! boss is friggin overpriced...
